Powergrid Recruitment of B.E./ B.Tech/ B.Sc (Engg) / AMIE graduate freshers as EXECUTIVE TRAINEE



POWERGRID, the Central Transmission Utility (CTU) of India and a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India is engaged in power transmission business with the mandate for planning, co-ordination, supervision and control over complete inter-State transmission system and operation of National & Regional Power Grids. POWERGRID operates around 1,01,379 circuit kms of transmission lines along with 169 Sub-stations (as on 30.6.2013) and wheels about 50% of total power generated in the country through its transmission network. POWERGRID, with its strong in-house expertise in various facets of Transmission, Sub-Transmission, Distribution and Telecom sectors also offers consultancy services at National and International level. To take the growth curve to further heights, POWERGRID is looking for Bright, Committed and Energetic engineers to join its fold as EXECUTIVE TRAINEE in Electrical discipline.

VACANCIES :

  • Vacancies exist in Unreserved and reserved, i.e. OBC (NCL), SC and ST categories.
  • Reservation for Persons with Disability (PwD)*
  • Reservation for PwD exists as per Govt. of India Directives including backlog vacancies. The post is identified suitable for OH (OL) - Orthopedic Handicapped (One Leg), HH (PD) - Hearing
    Handicapped (Partially Deaf) candidates.
UPPER AGE LIMIT : 28 years as on 31.12.2013

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION :

  • Full Time B.E./ B.Tech/ B.Sc (Engg) from recognized University/Institute or AMIE in Electrical/ Electrical (Power)/ Electrical and Electronics/ Power Systems Engineering with Minimum 65% or Equivalent CGPA * cleared by 31.03.2014.
  • Final Year / Semester students who expect their results by 14.08.2014 are also eligible, provided they have obtained minimum 65% marks or equivalent CGPA in aggregate of all semesters/years up to pre-final examination.

SELECTION PROCESS :

  • The selection process will include the marks obtained (Out of 100) by the eligible candidates in the EE paper of GATE 2014, followed by group discussion and personal interview of the candidates who qualify in the GATE paper and have been shortlisted category wise for the GD and interview.
  • Candidates shall have the option for appearing the GD/ interview in Hindi or English.
  • Eligible candidates will have to appear for the Electrical Engineering (EE) paper of GATE - 2014.
  • Candidates obtaining a valid score (Marks out of 100) shall only be eligible for the next stage of selection. The score is valid only if the candidate obtains more than or equal to the qualifying marks as fixed for the EE paper of GATE 2014.
Qualifying Marks in GATE-2014 :
  • The qualifying marks for GATE Examination shall be as per the criteria adopted by the GATE-2014 examination conducting authority for different categories.
  • Short listing of Eligible candidates for GD & Interview
  • Qualified candidates shall be short-listed category-wise for Group Discussion & Personal Interview based on their marks (Out of 100) in the EE paper of GATE – 2014.
  • Candidates shortlisted for the Group Discussion and Interview shall be required to submit the documents as may be mentioned in their individual communication to be sent through e-mail/ Candidate login.
Qualifying Marks in GD & Interview :
 
GD will not have any qualifying marks. Interview will have qualifying marks for different categories
as mentioned below. 

JOB DESCRIPTION :

Selected candidates will undergo training for a period of one year at POWERGRID sites and training
institutes. On successful completion of training, the candidates will be absorbed as Engineer. 
Indicative Job description of Engineer (Electrical) :
  • Planning, Design, engineering, quality assurance, inspection, erection, testing &
  • commissioning of 132 kV / 220 kV / 400 kV / 765 kV / 1200 kV /HVDC Sub-station,
  • Transmission Line, Power system protective relays, substation automation system, Power
  • Line Carrier Communication, SCADA system, Control & Instrumentation System,
  • implementation of Smart Grid, Research & Development etc.
  • Construction, operation, maintenance, erection, testing and commissioning, cost estimation,
  • project cost control activities of EHVAC/HVDC, HVDC B/B Transmission System.
  • Assignments related to Commercial, Engineering, Contracts & Materials, Load dispatch &
  • Communication of Transmission System, System Operation, Telecom, etc.
  • Co-ordination with internal and external stakeholders, etc.
  • Any other related work assigned to individual from time to time.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE :

Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scale of Rs. 24900-50500 during the one-year training period. The Corporation offers a very attractive pay package which is one of the best in the Industry. The approximate CTC* per annum are as follows:
  • During Training : Rs. 7.65 lakhs per annum  
  • After Training : Rs. 13.4 lakhs per annum
On regularization, the Compensation package includes Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance, Perquisites
and Allowance as per cafeteria approach, Performance Related Pay, Company Leased Accommodation / Company Quarters or HRA, Reimbursement of monthly conveyance expenditure,
mobile facility, etc.
The Corporation also offers excellent facilities like Short and Long term Loans & Advances including House Building Advance, Medical facilities for self and dependents, Group Insurance, Personal Accident Insurance, PF, Gratuity, Pension & Leave encashment etc. in accordance with the policies of the Corporation from time to time.

  2. Online Registration for GATE-2014 shall commence on 2nd September 2013.
  3. Last date for Online Registration for GATE-2014 is 3rd October 2013 (23:59 hrs.).
  4. For details on GATE -2014, please visit http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/gate2014.
  5. A separate notification with details regarding number of vacancies, important instructions regarding submission of POWERGRID online application, date of interview etc. shall be hosted on our website, from 7th January 2014.
  6. From 7th January 2014 onwards, Candidates have to register themselves online at POWERGRID website with details of their GATE -2014 Application No., GATE-2014 Registration Number and other required information, which will be made available at CAREER section of www.powergridindia.com.
  7. Candidates will be required to retain their GATE-2014 Admit card and Original GATE-2014 Score card for verification at the time of GD/ Interview / Joining in POWERGRID.
  8. Group Discussion and Personal Interview are likely to be conducted in the month of April/May 2014.

Job Description :

Training and emoluments :
The selected candidates shall undergo training of one year at any of its offices - Head Office - New Delhi, R&D Centre- Gurgaon, Regional Offices at Chennai/ Vadodara/ Kolkata, Branch Office at Mumbai, Inspection Offices or Project Sites etc. in India. Thereafter, posting can be at any of these offices in India and abroad.
During the one year training period, the monthly emoluments shall be Rs.35,000/-(Rupees Thirty Five Thousand) + Accommodation & Transport or Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand) if accommodation & transport is not provided; during the training period, other benefits like Medical will be provided to the Trainee as per Company policy applicable from time to time.
Salary :
On successful completion of training, the Management Trainees will be considered for absorption in the regular pay scale of Rs.24900-50500. They shall thereafter be on probation for a period of one year. Upon absorption, besides Basic Pay, the employee is entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA), HRA, Allowances at 50% of Basic Pay (under cafeteria approach) and Retiral Benefits upto 30% of Basic Pay and DA (including Contributory Provident Fund, Gratuity and Superannuation Benefits) as per Company’s policy applicable from time to time. In addition to this, Performance Related Pay (PRP) is also paid as per Company’s policy. Upon absorption, CTC would be approx. Rs 10.5 Lakhs per annum.

Selection Process :

The selection methodology will comprise of Written Test and Interview. The candidates short-listed in the written test shall only be eligible to appear for interview.
  • Written Test  :
Eligible candidates will be required to appear for an objective type written test at any one of the test centres. The test will comprise of two sections - Technical section comprising of 100 questions related to qualifying degree for the position and General Aptitude section comprising of 50 questions covering Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, Reasoning and English Language. The duration of test will be two hours. Each question shall carry 1 mark and 1/4 th mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. The test will be in English language.

The written test is tentatively scheduled to be conducted in 1 week of October, 2013. Exact schedule of written test will be displayed on EIL website (‘Careers’ page) in due course. Only outstation candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PWD (degree of disability 40% or above) will be paid Second Class to & fro rail fare by the shortest route for appearing in the written test. SC/ST/PWD candidates are advised to choose the nearest centre to their place of stay, as per the mailing address mentioned in their online application. However, if a SC/ST/PWD candidate prefers to take the test at any other centre, he/she may do so, but the fare reimbursement will be limited to the fare admissible between the mailing address and the nearest test centre. Change in allotted test centre will not be allowed at any stage of the recruitment process.
  • Interview :
Candidates short listed on the basis of their performance in the written test will be required to appear for an interview and the intimation for interview will be given to the candidates through e-mail. All such candidates will be paid to & fro second class rail fare by the shortest route from the mailing address, as mentioned in the application, to the interview centre.
Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks separately in the written test, and also in the personal interview to be eligible to be considered for further selection.
